Digital Annex

One of the NEGATIVE aspects of making digital art is that the media does such a bad job of explaining this new form...so people think the machine does everything. Push a button, and you get art. Really dumb; everybody knows that if you push buttons in a word processor,  you don’t get poetry. Anyway, let me just say that all this work grew out of years of experimenting, playing, trying, chasing possibilities. Digital lets you try a thousand ideas, but you have to know when you’ve got something worth pursuing. There are elements of magic and luck in all these pieces. Truth is, I probably couldn’t do them again, or anything close. Each one is like a “perfect sunset”--this exact combination of events won’t happen again. Sort of like one-hit wonders in the music world. And there is the difference between art and craft. A craft person can make 100 perfect things in a row. An artist might make one perfect thing at the age of 20 and never be so fortunate again.
